Common issues with WordPress sites

Components not consistently updated

The core code of WordPress is consistently updated to improve its’ efficiency, functionality, and security as is the case with many plugins and themes. If these updates are not consistently performed a site can malfunction,

Poorly optimized images

Site speed can be severely hampered by images that are not sized and optimized. We all carry with us in our phones high quality cameras which usually take pictures in high definition and suitable to be displayed in very large formats. These pictures if not optimized can easily have a file weight of multiple megabytes where less than 100kb is all that is needed.

Plugin overload

Excessive or conflicting plugins can hamper a site’s performance. It is important to make the careful plugin selections and keep plugin use at a minimum whenever possible.

Inefficient site builders

Before the advent of Gutenberg there was a greater temptation to use page builders to make the page building more “intuitive”. While these plugins did extend layout capabilities of the original “tiny MCE” editor they can drain resources and cause significant problems if not kept up to date. Unfortunately, page builders are often bundled with themes which do not always include perpetual updates for the page builders themselves.

Theme issues and incompatibilities

Themes can vary in quality, functionality, and flexibility. At times a site’s content and function may surpass what the original theme can do.

Issue with hosting components

As WordPress has developed so have PHP and database code, as versions of both advance updates need to be done at a server level.

Code injections & hacks

A poorly maintained and moderated site can be vulnerable to external threat and infection.
